Bio & Portfolio
I’m H. Todd Duren, an award-winning graphic designer with 23 years in professional practice, 10 years of teaching experience, and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Here is my curriculum vitae.
My professional work focuses on publication design, but also includes identity, advertising, interactive, and collateral design. Samples of my work are available in my online portfolio. I enjoy working with clients to design their book, tell their story, or improve their brand’s image. My clients include publishers, ad agencies, non-profits, marketing departments, and startups from Hawaii to New York.
I enjoy teaching and am fortunate to teach bright, creative graphic design students at Pellissippi State Technical Community College, where I’m an Assistant Professor in Media Technologies. My studio approach combines concept development and critiques with hands-on software demonstrations. As an educator I focus on developing young professionals with technical skills and a strong portfolio. My best students win scholarships and Addy awards, land exciting internships, and begin design careers.
“Holy Open Source Batman!” is the paper I presented at the 2007 AIGA Intent/Content conference. It defines and examines open source as it affects and influences graphic design.
