Whether it’s an Oscar, a Grammy, or an Addy, awards are important for careers. Pellissippi student Cordelia Norris just won an Addy here in Knoxville with an ad campaign she created in my Design II course last semester. Cordelia’s design uses hand-drawn illustrations and paper dolls in an imagined campaign for Neiman-Marcus. Cordelia also won in the sophomore category of the Rise and Shine portfolio competition at the Dish conference this year. Cordelia is a wonderfully creative designer, and these awards will make her stand out in the crowd of graduates this spring.
Three former Pellissippi students are also winning awards. Teela Fleeman, Lydia Light, and Julian rocked the Nashville Student Addys recently. These former students are now at Watkins finishing their BFA degree in Graphic Design after graduating at Pellissippi with their AAS degree. They won in the student category of the Nashville competition.
Our students should plan now to enter the Addys next year. Remember: you can’t win if you don’t enter!
Update: I just heard from I just heard that Pellissippi student David Mullinax worked on an Addy-winning projects as an intern. The Falsetti Book won an Addy for the Bingham Group. Joe Atkins art directed it. Go David!
