This news story on John Kristensen’s Firefly Press in Somerville, MA is the best short film on letterpress I’ve seen. There are brief bits showing both a Monocaster and Linotype type casting machines in operation. There is typographic lore and terminology. There is even criticism (”There are no rules in digital typesetting?” Hmm…) But best of all, there are great close-ups of good, crisp printing shot in raking light. Unlike many news stories, this one skimps neither on detail nor accuracy. One can almost smell the ink.
