Newspaper Ads

Posted by: opendoordesign | September 12, 2007 |

jefffinishednewsad.jpgSometimes advertising is expensive, colorful, and sexy. And then there are newspaper ads. My Design II students just designed these. The assignment was to take a client photo, copy, and logo and to design a quarter page newspaper ad. Each student was assigned a different paper and they had to find the correct size and come up with a good layout for Case Cutlery, a nation brand headquartered here in Knoxville. I nominate Jeff Higdon as the winner! Nice work. And, even though it doesn’t really fit with the brand image, I really like the ad by Ryan Simcoe. And I like the copy treatment at the bottom by Ashley Rice. Melissa’ss ad is very well-crafted too.

In general, a few comments: I would, in most instances, superscript registered trademark symbols and ‘most’ of the time, with ad copy, it works best to turn off hyphenation. And mind the edges of the ad…try not to get too close.

Nice work guys. Looking forward to working with you on the future project.
